I worked for Hugh & Co from 2009 – 2013.
I being an Irish Citizen initially contacted Huge via a phone call while pursuing many potential well established contractors, whom I taught might be able to offer sponsorship.
From the very start I found Hugh to be extremely professional, genuine and I got a good feeling from our call, Hugh agreed to talk with my migration agent.
Hugh & Co committed to sponsoring me and complied with all requirements. The whole process was seamless due to Hugh & Co’s professionalism and willingness.
I was initially employed with Hugh & Co as a Brick Paver, with the potential and expectation that I would progress to a team lead. From the very start I was welcomed into the company, a company that I found to be very closed nit, where Hugh himself was very much hands on and involved with right down through the teams. This made the whole initiation lot easier as this was a whole new start for me.
Within the space of a few months I had progressed from being paver to team lead. This was a very easy transition as Hugh & Co ensured that all the training, mentoring and encouragement were in place and were also offered lots of support while in this role. I held this role for about a year or so before progressing again to a Supervisor, managing a number of teams.
Hugh suggested I upskilled and enrolled me in a course for Project Management. Once I return to work, I was promoted to a project management position, working very closely with Hugh and the admin team, where I looked after the majority of the tendering, procurement and management of the construction teams. A role I loved doing.
In 2013 I unfortunately had to leave Australia due to family issues. Since then and to date, Hugh has kept in touch and I have seeked advise from Hugh in some of my career and study choices as I always valued his opinion.
I look back and think of Hugh & Co to be one of the best experiences in my career, it lead me to where I am now, it gave me the skill, the ambition, the drive, the opportunity’s and the good ethics that I still carry today. I found Hugh & Co to be one of the most reputable, well organised, supportive and genuine companies I have come across, and can genuinely say I would recommend any person thinking of getting into this trade to consider a position with Hugh & Co. I still follow Hugh & Co’s progression & growth from afar and see that they have progressed into larger more civil engineering, design & build projects, but have maintained there long standing presence within the commercial brick paving sector in WA and beyond where many others have come and gone.
I wish Hugh and Hugh & Co continued success and growth in the future.
